Central Park at Twilight

Fri 13/02  19.00
Temppeliaukio Church

The sound world of Varèse fills the church in a work
by James Tenney (d. 2006), a pupil of John Cage. The
concerto by Sampo Haapamäki, a Finnish composer
of international acclaim who studies in New York,
receives its first hearing in Finland. Tombeau pour New
York
was inspired by a poem in which Syrian Adonis
encounters the iconic metropolis. Légendes urbaines
addresses the harmonies of varèse, forefather of
experimentalism and urbanism, and the city sounds of
Manhattan in a latter-day Pictures at an Exhibition.
