UMO’s guest at Musica nova Helsinki is New York’s
Billy Harper, a veteran tenor saxophonist famous
for his intensity and his ‘majestic’ sound. Drawing
on black spiritual music, he has worked with great
jazz names from gil evans to Thad Jones and made
numerous recordings and world tours from the
1960s onwards with his own Billy Harper Quintet.
