George Crumb returns to the roots of all that the new World
implies in his American Songbook 1. The first book, The River
of Life
, alludes to the transcendentalism, hymns and gospel
songs of Charles Ives. Electricity and metal create a new
plane for the timbres of the string quartet by Keeril Makan.
